Come sto? Le mie condizioni sono buone, qualche giorno fa ho sostenuto una visita con il prof. Martens e procede tutto bene, il ginocchio non si è mai gonfiato dal giorno dell’ operazione e questo è importante.Ora inizierò con calma un lavoro fisico e poi valuterò il mio stato di forma settimana dopo settimana. Con Martens ho un nuovo appuntamento tra un mese. I Mondiali e gli azzurri campioni? Dopo tanto tempo di maglia azzurra e dopo 4 mondiali, al momento del raduno già l’atmosfera della nazionale mi mancava, non mi sono mai staccato completamente dall’ azzurro, avrei voluto anch’io alzare quella coppa e non lo nascondo, ma sono stato contento e ho tifato per i ragazzi che hanno dato una lezione al mondo su come si gioca, su come sono stati uniti e hanno lottato. Complimenti a tutti e a Cannavaro, il capitano che ha fatto un grande Mondiale.
Con che spirito affrontiamo questo raduno? Quello che è successo nel mondo del calcio non ci lascia certo indifferenti e non lascia indifferenti nemmeno i tifosi. Per il momento è inutile commentare, aspettiamo la decisione definitiva. L'unica cosa che voglio dire è che sento che mi hanno tolto qualcosa. La Champions? Per me potrebbe essere ultima occasione. Ripeto, sento che mi hanno tolto qualcosa e adesso anche la possibilità di partecipare a questa competizione, non resta che aspettare. Per quanto riguarda l'assenza dei nazionali non è un problema, partire non con tutta la rosa siamo abituati, anche se io genaralmente ero dall’altra parte e arrivavo dopo. Lavoreremo bene noi, in attesa dei compagni, aspettando di unirci tutti ad agosto. Ci sarà tempo per far rientrare tutti e lavorare insieme.

Ad una settimana dall'inizio del campionato, Paolo Maldini è pronto per l'ennesima stagione da protagonista: "Penso proprio di essere pronto per l'inizio del campionato, sia dal punto di vista fisico che da quello mentale". Il Milan ha la zavorra del -8 di penalizzazione: "Dovremo assolutamente provare a vincere tutte le partite". La Juve è in B: "E' giusto pagare, ma spero di vederla in A già dall'anno prossimo".

Pronto per la Lazio: "Nel trofeo Tim ho giocato solo quarantacinque minuti ma le razioni del ginocchio sono state positive. Si è trattato di un buon test perchè il terreno era particolarmente difficile, ma nonostante le sollecitazioni non ho avuto alcun gonfiore. Penso proprio di essere pronto per l'inizio del campionato, sia dal punto di vista fisico che da quello mentale".
Vincere tutte le partite: "Il calendario non credo possa modificare più di tanto il corso del campionato. Noi abbiamo dei punti di penalizzazione e quindi dovremo assolutamente provare a vincere tutte le partite. Se poi affronteremo prima squadre deboli o squadre più forti non credo questo possa fare differenza".
Il calcio italiano è cambiato: "Credo che nel calcio italiano siano cambiate parecchie cose. Naturalmente il fatto più lampante è vedere la Juventus in serie B. Sinceramente, da sportivo, credo sia giusto pagare determinati errori, ma allo stesso tempo mi auguro di vedere la Juve in serie A già dal prossimo campionato. Il calcio italiano ha bisogno di questa squadra e noi da avversari la rispettiamo moltissimo. Il girone di Champions League: "Rispetto al passato si può tranquillamente dire che siamo stati più fortunati, ma questo non vuol dire che sarà tutto più facile. La storia in passato ha spesso dimostrato che si ha avuto più difficoltà a vincere il proprio girone con squadre sulla carta pià facili, mentre affrontando le cosiddette grandi, magari ci si è qualificati con largo anticipo. In Europa ogni formazione può metterti in difficoltà e dunque dovremo stare estremamente attenti".
Il nuovo arrivato Ricardo Oliveira: "La mia prima impressione è che si tratti di un giocatore di grande talento, al momento è semplicemente poco conosciuto".

Dopo la vittoria di Berlino di luglio mi hanno chiamato dai quattro angoli della Terra per farmi i complimenti, come se fossi stato io in campo. Ma io purtroppo, il giorno della finale, ero a Miami in hotel con i sandali ai piedi. Mi è spiaciuto non vivere quell'esperienza".

Vigilia Campionato

L'addio di Shevchenko. Dicono sia stata un vicenda gestita male da lui. Una storia d'amore può finire, bastava essere più chiari, così non sarebbe successo quello che poi è successo. Nessuno avrebbe potuto dargli del traditore. Ma a Sheva, comunque, saremo sempre grati per quello che ci ha dato.
Fifa e Uefa. Quando parli da calciatore o ex giocatore hai un peso. Da dirigente o da candidato ne hai uno diverso e devi motivare le tue dichiarazioni. Platini è francese e deve tutelare al Francia, ma non c'è solo la Francia. Lui e Blatter non sono i padroni del calcio. Dopo l'estate orribile del Milan ho dovuto anche sentirmi ammonire dall'Uefa: 'comportatevi bene'. No, quella lettera non ci stava proprio.
L'estate 2006. E' stata un'estate amara. Perchè è stata messa in dubbio la credibilità del calcio in generale e del Milan in particolare. Come capitano mi sento derubato di qualcosa negli ultimi due anni. Eppure ci hanno penalizzato di 30 punti, anzi di più, e costretti a giocare i preliminari di Champions League. E' giusto dare delle pene a chi ha sbagliato, ma secondo me hanno cercato di coinvolgere più persone e più club perchè forse così era più facile giustificare certe sentenze.
La condizione fisica. Il professor Martens è uno dei chirurghi più all'avanguardia, per le ginocchia è il migliore. Ha potuto ricostruirmi la cartilagine soltanto in parte, ma dopo l'operazione i dolori e i gonfiori dell'anno scorso non ci sono più. Mi sento benone, sono tornato in forma dopo infortunio e artroscopia. Ora penso solo a giocare, come sempre.
La mancanza della Juve. Le mando un 'in bocca al lupo'. E' la nostra rivale più odiata, ma la Juve ha fatto cose incredibili e da giocatore preferisco affrontare squadre del genere. E' giusto che paghi, ma mi auguro che torni presto in Serie A.

Missing Juve. I would say, 'good luck to them'. They are our most hated rivals but Juve have done incredible things and as a player I prefer to face a team like that. It's right that they have to pay but I hope they get back in Serie A soon.

Qualcuno dice che la penalizzazione in campionato può spingerci ancora di più verso la Champions, ma noi in realtà abbiamo sempre pensato alla Champions come obiettivo primario, e lo sarà anche quest'anno. Non solo partiremo alla pari con gli altri, ma avremo anche il vantaggio della nostra esperienza in Europa e delle belle emozioni vissute negli ultimi anni.
Noi, a livello internazionale, siamo stati i migliori delle italiane, e direi anche delle altre squadre europee. Quindi considero il Milan la squadra più forte d'Europa. Non è vero che siamo tagliati solo per la Champions e non per il campionato, abbiamo sempre fatto il nostro ma per vari motivi abbiamo ottenuto di più in Europa. Dopo le motivazioni UEFA è rimasta tanta amarezza. Dopo la lettera di elogio seguita alla finale di Istanbul, dove abbiamo accettato il verdetto anche se amaro, questa motivazione lascia amarezza, e io la considero una cosa fuori luogo.
Comunque non penso che per la motivazione UEFA noi incontreremo ostacoli in più, credo e spero di avere ragione. Se pensassi diversamente prima dell'inizio della competizione sarebbe finita. Le partite saranno sotto gli occhi di tutti, credo non ci saranno ostacoli in più, e questo è lo spirito che dobbiamo avere. Posso giocare due o più partite di seguito, se non si presentano problemi sono a disposizione. Anche se non ho ancora parlato con il mister sto bene, e quindi sono a disposizione.
Non bisogna dire che qualche giocatore deve dare di più in Champions, perchè se lo scorso anno abbiamo fatto bene è perchè c'è stato il contributo di tutti. Gila non ha segnato in Champions? Si sbloccherà quest'anno. Il Barcellona è la squadra favorita, il Chelsea negli anni scorsi non è arrivata in fondo solo perchè ha incontrato due volte il Barcellona. Per quanto riguarda le mie condizioni fisiche i problemi restano, e ne avrò, ma non come lo scorso anno. Mi sono fermato anche per altri motivi e l'operazione mi ha aiutato.

Ho avuto subito un problemino all'adduttore sinistro, è per questo motivo che sono uscito, ci vorrà un po' di tempo. Non ce la farò per la partita di Champions League di martedì, e credo nemmeno per la prossima di campionato. Ci vorranno perlomeno dieci giorni. I tifosi, poi, devono stare tranquilli anche se abbiamo pareggiato, non c'è da preoccuparsi per il risultato. E' impensabile vincere tutte le partite dal preliminare in poi. Dobbiamo fare il massimo e l'abbiamo sempre fatto. La partite poi possono uscire in una maniera diversa dal previsto, ma non c'è assolutamente da preoccuparsi. Io non sono preoccupato.

Siamo abituati a giocare ogni tre giorni, anche se quest'anno è più difficile per la prearazione affrettata che abbiamo fatto e per il rientro di molti giocatori dal Mondiale. Possiamo fare molto meglio rispetto a quanto stiamo facendo adesso. Potremo arrivare anche in questa stagione a raggiungere i nostri abituali picchi di rendimento e di qualità, e vincere.

E' un periodo intenso, e proprio per questo dopo una sconfitta abbiamo subito la possibilità di rifarci. Dobbiamo pensare adesso solo ed esclusivamente alla partita con il Chievo che può farci arrivare al derby in buone condizioni morali. Non abbiamo problemi gravi, la squadra non è cambiata, è la stessa che ha vinto in Belgio. E' anche vero che contro di noi troviamo sempre squadre molto chiuse. E' anche per questo che non sempre riusciamo ad esprimere la giusta velocità, sia di manovra che di idee, al momento di attaccare l'avversario. E' successo anche in passato, quando abbiamo avuto periodi anche peggiori rispetto a questo che non giudico negativo.
In campionato ci conoscono meglio e si chiudono di più. In Europa puoi avere maggiori difficoltà tattiche ma c'è anche la possibilità di trovare più spazi. Noi in ogni caso siamo abituati a tutto, da anni facciamo sia una manifestazione che l'altra.
Su Gilardino: Per un attaccante il gol è importante, questo è innegabile, però lui è un giocatore importante sia per il Milan che per la Nazionale italiana campione del mondo quindi deve pensare solo ad andare in campo tranquillo e fiducioso perchè il gol verrà

Abbiamo avuto qualche difficoltà, è inutile negarlo. Siamo partiti bene poi, almeno a livello di risultati, non abbiamo ottenuto un granché.
Essendo la competizione più lunga, è vero che in campionato c'è più tempo per recuperare, ma è vero anche che noi siamo partiti con l'handicap del meno otto punti e quindi diventa difficile ipotizzare un campionato da grandi protagonisti. In questo momento la cosa migliore per noi è cercare di guardare non troppo lontano ma concentrarsi sulle squadre più vicine e vivere gara dopo gara, domenica dopo domenica.
Finora nelle coppe abbiamo fatto bene e in Champions abbiamo disputato un ottimo girone e siamo ad un passo dalla qualificazione.
Io sto bene e in questa stagione sono sempre stato a disposizione e la mia intenzione è di vivere quest'annata giocando con continuità.

Non è un periodo fortunato per noi, ma ieri abbiamo dimostrato di aver raggiunto una buona unità di squadra, siamo rimasti concentrati fino all'ultimo minuto. Tra l'altro l'Empoli è un'ottima squadra, con giocatori di qualità e sta facendo un ottimo campionato. Direi che ieri abbiamo fatto il primo passo per uscire dalla cosiddetta 'crisi'.
I pali, le traverse, ci stanno fermando. In passato, anche nei momenti di appannamento, riucivamo a sbloccare le partite con un gol e tutto cambiava, quest'anno non succede ed è un problema perchè riuscire a sbloccare le partite sarebbe una cosa decisiva.
Noi giocatori del Milan abbiamo la fortuna che a giudicare il nostro lavoro non sono le persone che commentano il calcio senza magari conoscerlo bene, ma è il nostro allenatore che vede il nostro lavoro durante la settimana e in campo. E' Carlo Ancelotti che sceglie e non lo fa certo in base alla simpatia.
Sarebbe bello ritornare in finale di CL per una gara così importante. Devo dire che questa stagione mi ricorda molto quella 2002/03, quando avevamo avuto dei problemi in campionato e poi abbiamo ottenuto un grande successo in Champions League.

E' capitato a me oggi di sbloccare il risultato, capiterà ad altri che magari sono più bravi di me a segnare. I punti danno morale, la prestazione è simile alle ultime due dove avevamo avuto sfortuna. Io voglio godermi questa seconda parte della stagione per quello che mi può dare, avremo soddisfazioni. Possiamo arrivare in fondo in Champions e al quarto posto. Gli attaccanti creano tanto, si sbloccheranno presto. Noi siamo competitivi.

Preparazione a Malta

Questo periodo a Malta ci serve per lavorare bene. L'ultima volta che io e Ancelotti siamo stati a Malta, con l'Italia, abbiamo vinto la Champions League: se la storia si ripetesse potremmo tornare ancora qui in inverno! Adesso però Malta è importante perchè ci siamo tutti, ci attende un periodo di lavoro non lungo ma lo possiamo fare tutti insieme, sia fisicamente che tatticamente.
La possibilità di un mio ritiro c'è ancora, vediamo cosa succederà nei prossimi sei mesi. Che uno come Collina sia tornato è una cosa importante per tutti. In generale il dialogo è fondamentale, in campo si dovrebbe parlare di più tra arbitro e giocatori.
Io sto bene, il mio problema muscolare è alle spalle, sono a disposizione al 100%. Su Cassano mi è difficile dare un giudizio, non l'ho mai avuto come compagno di squadra nemmeno in Nazionale. In generale un buon ingresso in spogliatoio dipende dalla disponibilità di chi arriva. Nello spogliatoio comunque non esistono poteri forti, il nostro è uno spogliatoio democratico e unito.

Su Ronaldo: L'ho visto sia ieri sera che oggi. Mi ha fatto un bell'effetto, ho sempre sperato di giocare con un giocatore così. Il suo cambiamento è stato notevole perchè in passato è stato un simbolo dell'Inter, ma lui è un giocatore coraggioso - ha detto Maldini -; dopo Maradona è il piu grande avversario che ho mai incontrato. Mi fa piacere se verrà qui, lo avevo già detto questa estate. Per me è sempre stato un avversario leale, mai sporco. Contro di lui in partita c'è sempre stato grande rispetto. Con l'arrivo di Ronaldo abbiamo fatto un grosso salto di qualità. La speranza è quella di migliorare sempre. Al di là dell'aspetto tecnico e caratteriale, il suo arrivo è uno stimolo per l'ambiente, per i tifosi, per tutti. La sua esperienza all'Inter è sempre stata piena di cose belle e brutte, ma come un allenatore può passare da una squadra all'altra della stessa città, può farlo anche un giocatore. Il Milan non è stata una scelta di comodo, ha fatto una scelta da campione. È ancora uno dei più bravi al mondo. Un campione che ha doti tecniche fuori dal comune.


About Ronaldo: I saw him yesterday evening and it was a nice meeting, I always hoped to play alongside a play like this. It's a remarkable move because he was a Inter symbol but he is a courageous players and after Maradona, the greatest opponent I have ever come up against. I would be pleased to have him here, I said that this summer. He is an ideal opponent for me, never dirty. There is always great respect when you play against him. There would be a major leap in quality if Ronaldo arrived and it would give everyone a lift. His past at Inter was always full of good and bad, but a coach can move from one team to another in the same city so a player can. Il capitano del Milan guarda al futuro: "Mi piace ancora tanto giocare, i test atletici sono ottimi, mi sto convincendo ad andare avanti. L'anno scorso ero preoccupato, adesso no"

- Maldini, perché siete così convinti che Ronaldo sia ancora in grado di fare la differenza?
"Per tre motivi. Primo: tecnicamente è eccezionale. Secondo: è relativamente giovane e credo possa esprimere ancora il meglio di sé. Terzo: ha enormi motivazioni. La scelta di passare al Milan è stata la più difficile e coraggiosa della sua vita: rimettersi in gioco è dura, per lui al Milan lo è di più. Quindi è determinatissimo".
- Perché Galliani ha chiesto il suo parere e quello di Costacurta sull’acquisto di Ronaldo?
"Aveva paura che potessero esserci problemi nello spogliatoio o che l’arrivo di Ronaldo venisse recepito in modo sbagliato. Ma qui i grandi campioni sono sempre ben accetti".

"Bisogna distinguere: la Champions è l’obiettivo primario, il quarto posto è un traguardo che con i nostri valori non possiamo fallire. Il piazzamento in campionato è più semplice, ma una cosa non esclude l’altra".
- In caso di fallimento totale, sarebbe giusta una rivoluzione tecnica?
"Non dovrebbe essere così, ma la società sa bene che tra il giugno 2007 e il giugno 2008 alcuni giocatori importanti smetteranno: ci sarà quindi un cambiamento 'naturale'".
- Lei ha vinto alcuni campionati dominandoli dalla prima all’ultima giornata e altri in volata: quali danno più gusto?
A me piace prendere subito un gran vantaggio e gestirlo nel corso della stagione. Gli altri successi sono magari più emozionanti, ma anche più stressanti e spesso frutto di situazioni incredibili".
- Come si spiega il calo di spettatori?
"C’è un’offerta televisiva impressionante e abbiamo stadi scomodi. Speriamo che l’Europeo 2012 dia una svolta. Poi manca la Juve, l’Inter domina e quindi l’interesse cala".
- In estate Del Piero ha detto no al Manchester. Lei a chi ha detto no in passato?
"All’Arsenal e al Chelsea: Vialli mi voleva con lui. Queste richieste sono arrivate a me personalmente, non so se al Milan ne sono giunte altre".
- Continua a seguire gli allenamenti di suo figlio Christian?
"Certo, è bellissimo vedere i bambini giocare con un’intensità incredibile. E gli allenamenti sono più divertenti delle partite: durano tanto e loro si impegnano davvero al massimo".
- Il calcio è il Milan, è San Siro, ma è anche la morte violenta su un campo di Terza categoria. Ci pensa mai?
"Spesso, e soprattutto riguardo a mio figlio. Il campo di Terza categoria è la vita di tutti giorni e lui tra poco vorrà uscire per i fatti suoi, camminerà per strada da solo e dovrà affrontare molte difficoltà. Presentazione di 'Sweet Hits'

Giocare senza pubblico sarebbe una soluzione assurda. Preferirei fermarmi una settimana in più - ha detto il capitano rossonero a margine della presentazione, avvenuta a Milano, di 'Sweet Hits', una compilation di canzoni scelte da lui insieme a Christian Vieri - Giocare a porte chiuse è la morte del calcio, anche se è chiaro che chi ha sbagliato deve essere punito. E' la cosa più frustrante per un calciatore. In passato ci sono state altre situazioni simili ma la reazione sembra diversa, lo stop al campionato e alla nazionale sono stati segnali forti. Da adesso in poi ci vorrà tolleranza zero. Comunque sarebbe meglio prevenire, mentre si aspetta sempre che succeda qualcosa prima di agire. Paura dei tifosi violenti? In genere in campo non si va con la paura e all'interno del mondo del calcio noi siamo forse i più tutelati.
Il disagio non è solo nel mondo del calcio, è sociale - ha proseguito - Quello che è successo non riguarda soltanto il nostro mondo. I fatti sono successi fuori dallo stadio ed è stato un attacco premeditato contro la polizia. Che poi certi atteggiamenti del calcio non aiutino è un altro discorso ma mi sembra riduttivo dare la colpa solo al calcio. Seguire il modello inglese o americano? Entrambi potrebbero essere un'idea. Il modello inglese per la durezza delle leggi e perchè soprattutto vengono applicate, quello americano perchè i concerti e altre manifestazioni del genere porterebbero più le famiglie allo stadio. Molto spesso le tensioni non sono legate alla gara in se' ma a un disagio sociale. Comunque da noi c'è una cultura sportiva diversa, la sconfitta non è mai accettata mentre in Inghilterra applaudono anche quando una squadra va in B.
L'ho passata con tristezza perché oltretutto anche mio figlio doveva giocare e aveva il derby. Il ruolo del calciatore è quello di cercare di trasmettere dei valori di lealtà e sportività. Il nostro atteggiamento in campo conta e se è positivo tanto meglio.

Celtic - Milan  0 - 0

Credo che il 'Celtic Park' sia uno dei posti più belli dove giocare. Un campo sicuramente difficile come intensità del tifo. Due anni fa abbiamo giocato in questo stadio una gara che per noi non contava nulla perchè eravamo qualificati, eppure c'era un clima da finale di Champions League.
Ogni partita fa storia a sé, non conta se sabato abbiamo preso tre gol. Dobbiamo sicuramente migliorare dal punto di vista difensivo, sì, ma sinceramente non penso che, visto il rendimento della difesa e tutti i problemi che ha avuto, siamo andati così male. Noi sappiamo che per raggiungere il nostro obiettivo, vincere la Champions, dobbiamo migliorare. Anche se questo è un momento diverso rispetto a inizio anno, quindi adesso la fiducia c'è. E poi abbiamo la speranza di poter recuperare qualche giocatore.
Non so se è la mia ultima stagione, ma dentro di me spero di no. Continuo anche per vivere momenti come questo: grandi partite in stadi importanti. Taglio il traguardo delle 100 presenze in Champions League ed è sicuramente un onore per me. Anche se io giocavo in questa competizione da quando era ancora 'Coppa dei Campioni', quindi per me sono anche più di 100 le presenze.
Vennegoor of Hesselink è difficile da marcare, di testa è sicuramente uno degli avversari più forti che abbiamo incontrato. Ci aveva creato delle difficoltà, ricordo, nella gara di ritorno contro il PSV. Però penso che abbiamo le armi per affronta.

Conforta la prestazione, abbiamo sofferto poco. Poi speriamo di recuperare qualche giocatore per la gara di ritorno. Fino a Siena eravamo tra le difese migliori e a Glasgow si è visto, ci vorrebbe più equilibrio nei giudizi. Abbiamo provasto a vincere, abbiamo avuto qualche occasione.

 

I believe that Celtic Park is one of the best places to play. It's definitely a difficult place to play at, with intense support. We played here two years ago but that counts for nothing as we had already qualified, even though the climate was one of a Champions League final.
Every game is a different story, it doesn't matter that we conceded three goals on Saturday. We definitely have to improve from a defensive point of view but having seen all the problems we have had in defence, I don't think we have done badly. We know we have to improve if we want to win the Champions League. The confidence is there because things are different compared to the start of the year. Then, hopefully we will have some players back.
I don't know if this will be my last season, inside I hope not. I also keep going to live moments like this: great games in important stadiums. It's an honour for me to reach 100 appearances in the Champions League. It's more than 100 because I played in this competition when it was called the Champions Cup.
Vennegoor of Hesselink is difficult to mark, he's one of the strongest in the air. He created a few problems in the return leg when he played for PSV against us. However, I think we if have what is needed to deal with him.

Inter - Milan  2 - 1

Se devo essere sincero io nella finale di Atene ci ho sempre creduto e non solo da ieri. Questo è sempre stato il nostro obiettivo e solo se credi fortemente nelle cose puoi avere la possibilità di arrivare. Senza dubbio poi alcune squadre importanti sono state eliminate e questo ci facilita ulteriormente. La sfida di eri è stata molto difficile, il risultato di 0-0 è sempre un punteggio ambiguo, anche se segni un gol hai sempre il timore che loro possano segnare all'ultimo minuto. Il Milan però storicamente ha sempre dimostrato di poter ribaltare questo risultato a proprio favore. Io all'attacco? In certe occasioni se la condizione fisica te lo permette si può fare, ieri sera per esempio mi sono spinto in avanti e sono anche andato vicino al gol, peccato che sia scivolato nel rimpallo.
Dopo la sfida di ieri ero molto stanco, è stata una partita intensa. Oggi tuttavia mi sono allenato con grande intensità nonostante qualche acciacco. La sfida di domenica con l'Inter è troppo importante e io spero naturalmente di esserci. Noi e l'Inter veniamo da due situazioni molto diverse, la nostra qualificazione ci ha certamente caricato moralmente. Il nostro obiettivo rimane il quarto posto e naturalmente tale risultato deve essere conseguito anche con la vittoria nel derby. Sarà una sfida strana, da tanto tempo non giochiamo questa sfida alle 15.

I was really tired after yesterday’s game, it was intense. All things considered, today I trained really hard despite some pain. Sunday’s game against Inter is too important and I naturally hope to be there. Inter and Milan are coming from two very different situations. Our qualification has certainly charged our morale. Our objective is to remain in fourth place with a derby victory. It will be a strange game, it’s been quite sometime since we have played this fixture during the day.

Intervento a Studio Milan

Ha commentato il dato-record sul primo giorno di vendita libera per i biglietti di Milan-Bayern: "Questo fa capire l'importanza di questa gara in una stagione come questa. In campionato non siamo in gara per lo scudetto ma in Europa possiamo toglierci delle soddisfazioni. Nel derby la curva silenziosa ha influito negativamente, anche una volta andati in vantaggio, e se i tifosi ci appoggeranno sarà una cosa positiva.
Il ginocchio che ho operato lo scorso anno va bene, l'altro è più o meno nella stessa situazione di quello operato. La settimana comunque l'ho iniziata bene, ho lavorato con la squadra nonostante i problemi che si sono presentati dopo il derby. Vediamo, ho fatto anche una visita con il professor Martens. Farò un'altra operazione? Dipende dal gonfiore, se va come l'anno scorso è praticamente impossibile andare avanti. In ogni caso questa stagione è stata più ricca e intensa di partite e minuti giocati rispetto alla scorsa.
Il Bayern è sempre il solito avversario, forte fisicamente, ma lo conosciamo bene e credo sia assolutamente battibile da un Milan concentrato e in buona forma. Sulla concentrazione non ci sono timori, sulle forze abbiamo recuperato pedine importanti e poi, in gare così, raccogli tutte le forze che hai. Io sono ottimista per la Champions, a questo punto nessuna delle 8 squadre presenti non ha la possibilità di arrivare in fondo. E dalla nostra posizione possiamo guardare gli altri dall'alto in basso. Sono uscite Barcellona e Inter, e non possiamo sentirci inferiori a nessuno.

Un commentosulla nazionale italiana e sul suo ct, Roberto Donadoni, ex compagno di Paolo: "Innanzitutto io ho visto giocare la Scozia e la Georgia non meritava di perdere, non credo che l'Italia avrà grossi problemi. Certo il girone ora è complicato ed è dura recuperare. Poi altri problemi non ne vedo, di rapporti o altro. E' normale che un allenatore come Ancelotti possa aspirare un giorno di diventare il ct della Nazionale. Ma Donadoni non deve sentirsi messo in discussione, ora si sta abituando anche alla pressione che un ct subisce.

Io spero di essere a disposizione per Roma, ma Martens mi ha detto di scordarmi di giocare due partite ravvicinate. Mi piacerebbe essere in panchina a Roma comunque. Il Bayern ha cambiato allenatore ma non ha cambiato molto altro. Il Milan invece l'anno scorso ha fato una grande stagione, e forse l'anno scorso eravamo superiori. Ma in questo momento della stagione il Milan deve far vedere il meglio. Non possiamo accontentarci. Dobbiamo fare più di quello che abbiamo fatto fino ad ora. Per quanto riguarda il quarto posto è più vicino adesso rispetto ad inizio stagione. Siamo a pochi punti dal Palermo, è difficile perchè la Lazio corre, l'Empoli non molla. Ma è l'obiettivo minimo della squadra riuscire ad arrivare al quarto posto, anche considerando la penalizzazione e la preparazione affrettata.
Ronaldinho? Speriamo, perchè giocare con campioni è più facile, fa piacere. Lo dicevo anche per Ronaldo, a me è piaciuto molto. E' un campione, diverso dai giocatori che già abbiamo. Non dimentichiamo che viene da 6 mesi di quasi inattività. Ora però si sta allenando alla grande, lui può essere la svolta per arrivare al quarto posto, mentre per la Champions dobbiamo pensarci noi.
Leandro Grimi è un ragazzo che viene da una realtà completamente diversa. Si è ambientato, ma a livello fisico, tattico e di concorrenza è dura. Posso capire quanto sia dura per lui visto che abbiamo in rosa 12 difensori che sono tutti intercambiabili. Ma lui ha deciso di rimanere qui, di non fare un'esperienza in B, e credo abbia imparato tanto e l'anno prossimo giocherà le sue carte.

Paolo Maldini was interviewed on last night’s Studio Milan show to comment on the record opening day ticket sold for the Milan-Bayern: ‘It makes you understand how important this game is in a season like this one. We are not in the fight for the Italian league title, but we can take some satisfaction for ourselves in Europe. The silence of the curva fans section during the derby influenced things negatively. If the fans are there to support us it will be a positive thing.
The knee that I had operated on last year is doing well, the other one is more or less in the same situation as the one that was operated on. I started the week well, working with the team despite the problems that presented themselves after the derby. We’ll see how it goes. I also went to see doctor Martens. As for whether or not I will have another operation that depends on the swelling. If it continues as it did last year, then it will be practically impossible to go ahead. In any case, this year has been richer and more intense as far as the games go and the minutes played compared to last year.
Bayern are the same tough opponent as always, physically strong. However, I know the side well and I think that they are absolutely beatable as long as Milan are focused and in good form. As far as the focus goes there are no problems. As for our strength, we have recovered some important pieces and, in a game like this, you gather all the strength that you have. I am optimistic about the Champions League.

Paolo then turned to the Azzurri and coach Roberto Donadoni: ‘I saw Scotland play and Georgia didn’t deserve to lose. I don’t think that Italy will have any big problems. Certainly, the round is now more complicated and it’s difficult to recover. Other than that, there aren’t any other problems of rapport or otherwise. It is normal that a coach like Carlo Ancelotti could aspire to one day become the national coach, but this isn’t about Donadoni. Now, Donadoni is adapting to the high level of pressure that is put upon a national coach.
I hope to be available for Roma, but Martens told me to forget about playing two games back to back. I would like to be on the bench against Roma anyway. Bayern Munich changed coaches, but they haven’t changed much else. On the other hand, Milan played a great season last year and perhaps we were superior last year. However, in this moment of the season Milan must show what they can do and we can’t be satisfied yet. We must do even more than what we have done up until now. In regards to fourth place, it is closer than it was at the beginning of the season. We are a few points away from Palermo. It is difficult because Lazio are fighting and Empoli isn’t giving up. However the team’s minimum objective is to arrive in fourth place, taking into consideration the point penalty and the hurried pre-season preparation.
We are hoping to sign Ronaldinho because playing with a champion is easier and it’s fun. I said the same thing about Ronaldo. I liked him a lot. He is a champion and was different from the players that we already had. We must not forget that he is coming from six months of being almost inactive. However, now he is training really well. He could be the turning point in our arrival in fourth place, while in the Champions League it’s up to us.
Leandro Grimi comes from a completely different reality. He is adapting but it isn’t easy at the physical, tactical and competitive level. I can understand how difficult it is for him, seeing that we have twelve amazing defenders on the roster. However, he has decided to remain here. I think that he has learned a lot and next year he will have his cards to play.

Roma - Milan   1 - 1

Il Bayern è più o meno rimasto la stessa squadra dell'anno scorso. La stessa cosa vale per noi, anche a livello di forma. Noi la passata stagione stavamo andando bene in campionato, ma è così anche quest'anno, con l'eccezione della sconfitta nel derby. Per questo mi aspetto una gara simile a quella del marzo scorso, mi aspetto lo stesso tipo di gara. Giocare la prima in casa non è un vantaggio, ma nemmeno una preoccupazione.
La Champions League è da anni il nostro obiettivo numero uno. In questa competizione, negli anni, siamo stati i più continui. In campionato dobbiamo dare qualcosa in più e potevamo fare meglio, ma in fondo siamo vicini al nostro obiettivo minimo, il quarto posto. Una stagione normale potrebbe però trasformarsi in straordinaria grazie al sogno Champions.
Perchè ci crediamo? Anche in base ai risultati, siamo gli unici ancora tra le prime 8 delle squadre in corsa l'anno scorso. Sono uscite due formazioni forti come Barcellona e Inter. Le squadre rimaste sono alla nostra portata, anche loro hanno avuto problemi in campionato, come il Liverpool, il Bayern. Tra l'altro, al di là della gara contro il Lille, abbiamo sempre fatto bene in questa Champions.
Il Bayern ha un'impronta tipicamente tedesca; è un a squadra che non molla mai, molto fisica, ostica. Rispetto all'anno scorso ha perso un po' di qualità ma sono molto forti. Makaay è il loro giocatore determinante, si muove molto, taglia sempre. E' anche in ottima forma, a noi ha già fatto gol con il Deportivo. Direi che è lui il giocatore da seguire e guardare con grande attenzione. Se abbiamo ancora lo spirito di Manchester? Direi di sì, è il nostro, è lo spirito di questo club, quello che rimane anche quando i giocatori cambiano'.
Io sto bene, già da 10 giorni mi alleno con la squadra. Sto gestendo bene il mio infortunio. Sono pronto per giocare 90 minuti con il massimo sforzo e la massima grinta.
Ogni gara di Champions è un'avventura nuova, per un calciatore vivere queste gare è il massimo. La carica dei tifosi poi dà grandi motivazioni. San Siro ha un effetto terapeutico.
Milan-Roma in semifinale? Sarebbe bello per tutte e due e per il calcio italiano. Ma è prematuro pensarci.

Bayern are more or less the same side as they were last year and so are we, even at the condition level. Last year we were doing well in the league, but that’s the same goes for this year with the exception of the derby loss. Because of this, I am expecting a game similar to one last March. Playing the first leg at home isn’t an advantage, but it isn’t something to worry about either.
The Champions League has been our primary objective for many years now. Over the years we have done continuously well in this competition. We must give a bit more in the league. We could have done better there but in the end we are close to our minimum goal for the season, which is fourth place. However, a normal season could be transformed into an extraordinary one thanks to the Champions League dream.
We believe in ourselves, not just because of the results but because we are the only side left amongst the last eight in the running last year. Two strong sides like Barcelona and Inter have exited. The remaining sides are within our range. Even they have had problems in the league, like Liverpool and Bayern. On top of everything else, besides for the game against Lille, we have always done well in the Champions League.
Bayern have a typically German look. They are a side that never give up, are physically strong and tough. They have lost a bit of quality in respect to last year, but they are very strong. Roy Makaay is their most eye-catching player. He moves a lot and always cuts through. He is also in excellent condition. He already scored against us with Deportivo. I would say that he is the player to watch and follow with great attention. We still have the same spirit of the Manchester days because that is who we are. The spirit of this club remains, even when the players change.
I am doing well. It’s already been ten days now that I’ve been training with the team. I am managing my injury well. I am ready to play 90 minutes with maximum effort and fighting spirit. Every Champions League game is a new adventure. Living these games is absolutely the top for a player. The charge from the fans is also a great motivation. The San Siro has a special kind of therapeutic effect.
A Milan-Roma semi-final would be great for both sides and for Italian football. However, it is premature to start thinking about this.

Il Bayern Monaco è una squadra molto solida, forte fisicamente; ricalca lo stile di gioco che ha sempre avuto nella sua storia. Il Bayern è una squadra simile a quella dell'anno scorso, sia come gioco che come impostazione. La nostra speranza è fare l'impresa. Vista la gara di andata le possibilità ci sono. Ce la giocheremo e non è una frase fatta.
Io ce la metto tutta da 20 anni. Sono abituato a pensare in positivo, quindi non scendo in campo pensando che possa essere la mia ultima in Champions...anche se a pensarci bene questo pensiero potrebbe darmi ancora più energia.
Siamo venuti qui dicendoci che ci crediamo davvero. Il risultato dell'andata ci penalizza, però rimane la prestazione. Avremmo meritato di arrivare qui con un certa vantaggio, invece il vantaggio ce l'ha il Bayern. Dobbiamo accettare il risultato del campo, anche perchè se si fanno degli errori si pagano. Soprattutto a questi livelli. Penso anche che il vantaggio dei tedeschi non pregiudica assolutamente le nostre possibilità di qualificazione.
Sono serio, ma non introverso. Il nostro spogliatoio è serio, sereno e divertente. Non dobbiamo andare allo sbaraglio, perchè la partita la possiamo vincere anche nei minuti finali. Per questo sarà fondamentale non subire gol e non dobbiamo lasciare loro il contropiede.

Bayern Munich are a very solid team and are physically strong. They are following the style of play they have always had over the years. This Bayern side are similar to last year’s, both in play and in their formulation. Our hope lies in doing the job that lies ahead of us. Looking at the first leg you can see that the opportunity is there. It’s open and nothing is yet sealed.
I have gave my all here for 20 years. I am used to thinking positively, therefore I will not walk on the field thinking that this could be my last Champions League game. Even though, if you think about it, this thought could give me even more energy.
We came here saying to each other that we really believe we can win. The result of the first leg penalises us, but the game is still to be played. We deserved to arrive here with a certain advantage, but instead Bayern have the advantage. We must accept the result from the field because if you make mistakes you pay for them, especially at this level. I absolutely do not think that the German’s advantage damages our possibility of qualifying.
I am a serious guy, but I am not an introvert. Our dressing room is serious, but there is also a great feeling there and it is fun. We must not put ourselves in danger because the game can be won even in the final minutes. This is why it will be fundamental to not concede a goal and we must not leave them open for the counterattack.

La nostra vera motivazione è che giochiamo per raggiungere l'obiettivo numero 1 della stagione: la Champions League. La storia degli ultimi 20 anni del Milan dice che la società è sempre stata protagonista in Italia e in Europa. La sconfitta di Istanbul pesa, brucia, ma in carriera ho vinto tanto. Continuo a giocare a calcio per la passione che ho per questo sport, non certo per un senso di rivalsa per una finale persa, giocando comunque alla grande.
Ritengo che la squadra di Ferguson sia migliore, rispetto a due stagioni fa. I tanti giovani che hanno sono cresciuti, ma il Milan è all'altezza di uno scontro del genere. Essere qui da capitano, per me, è motivo di orgoglio. Sono convinto che gli inglesi, guardando Bayern Monaco - Milan speravano di vedere passare la squadra tedesca. Credo sia tra i primi 5 al mondo ed è quello che è maggiormente cresciuto negli ultimi tempi. Ha tutto: velocità, fisico, senso del gol e fantasia. Penso che potrà essere uno dei migliori in assoluto. La mia marcatura su di lui? Non sarà certo a uomo, perchè noi non giochiamo così. Il problema, comunque, non si pone, anche perchè penso di essere ancora abbastanza veloce.
Paura del Manchester? Rispetto, non paura. Il Manchester, in casa, gioca un calcio bellissimo, però ogni partita è una storia a se e non potrà essere Manchester - Roma a incidere sul morale che è altissimo.

Our motivation is to play for our number one objective of the season: the Champions League. Milan have always been at the forefront in Italy and Europe over the last 20 years. The defeat in Istanbul still hurts but I have won a lot in my career. I continue to play football with a passion for this sport, not to get over a lost final.
Ferguson's side are better, a lot of their young players have developed but Milan are at the very top in one-offs in general. Being here as captain is a reason to be proud. I am convinced that the English watched Bayern Munich-Milan and thought the German side would go through. Cristiano Ronaldo is amonst the top five in the world and he's really developed in the last few years. He has everything: speed, physique, a sense of goal, skill. He's got what it takes to be one of the absolute best. As for me marking him, I am not certain because we don't play like that. The problem anyway is not where to position myself because I think I am still fast enough.
feared Manchester United? Respect not fear. Manchester United play beautiful football at home, however, every game has its own story and it doesn't have to influence morale which is at the highest level.

Diciamo che non ho ancora firmato. In occasione della festa che abbiamo fatto a Billy ho parlato con il dottor Galliani e abbiamo deciso di andare avanti. Insomma, quello che manca è la firma ma non credo sia un problema. Alla base della decisione c'è il fatto che mi sento ancora bene, con l'operazione a fine stagione credo di risolvere il problema al ginocchio sinistro e quindi potrò per fine agosto, inizio settembre preparare quella che sarà la mia ultima stagione.
E' difficile dare un'interpretazione di una partita che ancora non si è giocata. Durante la gara stessa, ci sono tanti cambiamenti in campo decisi da situazioni di gioco, situazioni ambientali e anche psicologiche.
Il calcio, come sport, si è evoluto. La preparazione fisica per chi come me gioca da tanti anni si è personalizzata. Non si allenano 25 giocatori tutti alla stessa maniera. E credo che in questo il Milan sia assolutamente all'avanguardia e fortunatamente qui si guarda il risultato del campo e non la carta d'identità.
La sconfitta di Istanbul è la più dura da digerire? "Direi di sì perché è l'ultima che ci è capitata ma anche per come è maturata. In genere quando ho meritato di vincere ho vinto. Quella finale ha un po' ribaltato quanto capitato negli anni precedenti. Credo che il Milan avesse fatto di tutto, avesse meritato la vittoria ma bisogna accettare il risultato. Quanto ha pesato la condizione fisica sul rinnovo? "Le condizioni fisiche erano alla base di tutto. Il fatto che poi il Milan abbia raggiunto questa finale aiuta a mantenere alte le motivazioni che ho dentro. La sicurezza per un giocatore del Milan è che un'annata può anche non andare tanto bene, l'anno dopo però sei sempre protagonista. Da questo punto di vista, il Milan è una sicurezza".
Sul ritiro di Malta: "E' stata la vera preparazione del Milan quest'anno visto che dopo il Mondiale non siamo riusciti a riunirci tutti e ad avere una preparazione normale per i preliminari che non dovevamo giocare e che abbiamo giocato. Molti giocatori poi non avevano fatto le vacanze ma oltre l'importanza di quella piccola preparazione, la cosa importante è stata recuperare giocatori fondamentali per la squadra. Per la finale saremo praticamente tutti a disposizione, questo fa capire l'importanza della preparazione. Per quanto mi riguarda, il mio ruolo è stato quello di cercare di dare fiducia a questa squadra nei momenti difficili, aiutarla a pensare in grande. Su Carragher: "Gli ho fatto i complimenti poco prima della finale di Istanbul e non vorrei ripeterli giusto per una questione scaramantica. Non è tradizione del Milan fare grosse rivoluzioni. Si vive bene in questo club, si hanno grosse chances di raggiungere obiettivi importanti. Lo spogliatoio e l'ambiente fanno tutto il resto. La qualità della vita qui al Milan è un punto a favore di questo club. L'ottava finale è un motivo d'orgoglio, giocarla per la terza volta da capitano è un ulteriore motivo d'orgoglio. In Senegal c'è una scuola calcio che prende il nome proprio dal capitano rossonero: "Gli dico di giocare con passione poi se hanno talento e volontà per arrivare avranno la possibilità di farlo. I always believed in it, so did the coach and if we have made it so evidently someone else believed in it as well. We have overcome the critical moments of a difficult season. We reached optimal form in the Malta training retreat. Above all, we recovered all of our excellent players from injury. So here we are at Athens with the opportunity to write a new page in our history, with the possibility of reaching new heights. This is the joy and honour of playing for Milan, to always be able to compete at the highest level and to always have the possibility to win something. My balance of finals played says that I have won four and lost three, and there's no way I want to even things out!
The question is will Paolo Maldini play against Liverpool? The answer is simple: I will do everything to be there. My knee swelled up after the game against Catania at the weekend, but that was expected. It will be treated with specialised work over the next days. The problem is just something that occurs, but I know that I can get fit in time for the match against Liverpool. The pain and swelling can also be eliminated with injections. I am certain of one thing though and that’s that I will only play if I am one hundred percent. Otherwise, neither myself nor the coach will have any problem in playing someone who is in better shape than me.

THOUGHTS ON ISTANBUL: 'Istanbul is a defeat that still hurts, but if analysed it can be seen in a different light. Liverpool know very well how it went, they always had the feeling that certain incidents influenced the outcome. I bet that today the English are thinking more or less like this: we won’t win a game like that again, facing a strong side that scores three goals in the first half. We are more or less the same side that played in the final in Manchester and Istanbul, but as a team we are without a shadow of a doubt going to Athens in the best possible shape.’

SHEVA’S POSSIBLE RETURN: ‘Every player that leaves Milan regrets that decision, but at the same time the club never forgets who gave a lot to this jersey. Milan never has bad blood with anyone and I think that this is the secret and the philosophy that has made the difference over these years. From this base, it is easy to say that Sheva would always be welcomed with open arms.’

COSTACURTA’S GOOD-BYE: ‘Every time that one of my team-mates that made this same journey with me leaves, a part of me dies. This is tough, but it is part of the sport. Milan will be here forever but the people playing the roles will change. Like I have always said, this side will never abandon you and I think that a new and exciting experience is about to start for Billy. He has tried to understand how he can be useful to the side this season and I think that starting a coaching career beside one of your former team-mates is positive and fundamental.’


We have signed anything yet. We spoke about it during the part for Billy with Doctor Galliani and we decided to go ahead together. It just needs the signature but that should not be a problem. The decision was made because I still feel fine, with the operation at the end of the season I hope to resolve the problem of left knee and then from the end of August, beginning of September prepare for my last season. It's difficult to see how it will go. In football you can't have 25 players who prepare and train in the same way. The results on the pitch have shown what Milan can do.
As for the final in Istanbul: 'Generally, those who win deserve to win. I believe that Milan deserved to win but you need to accept the result. Milan have come back from that. We didn't have the chance for proper preparation after the World Cup so the winter-break in Malta was important. After Istanbul, we have always believed.
What else does Maldini want to add to in his wonderful career? 'Nothing in particular if I cannot play at the top level and look to win as much as possible: that's my only objective. It would be wonderful to win the Cup at international level again. The final is a great target especially from the start of the season. Milan continue because of the mentality of the way we play. It's the only club that keep players who are 35 but it's not just age that reflects the side's worth on the pitch.' On Carragher: 'I congratulated him before the game in Istanbul but won't do that again so not to bring bad luck. It's an honour to captain the side for a third time in the final. We have nothing against Liverpool but it could be a chance for revenge.Our thoughts are not too much on the opposition. They are a solid side, Gerrard gets forward really well and Crouch is dangerous in the air. I don't know but there is still a week to prepare. I am confident I will be available for the coach.

Abbiamo fatto molta fatica per arrivare in finale quindi vorrei esserci. Ma al di là di questo, l'importante è confermare gli ottimi risultati raggiunti fino ad ora. Ho firmato perché sono sicuro di poter dare ancora qualcosa. Non solo per la Coppa Intercontinetale, ma perché penso di potermi esprimere ancora ad alti livelli.

I ricorsi storici non mi hanno mai fatto impazzire, è difficile trovare similitudini fra l'Atene di oggi e l'Atene del 1994, di uguale c'è la città e il grande giocatore, Kakà oggi come Savicevic allora. Il Pallone d'Oro? I premi individuali passano in terzo piano rispetto ad una finale del genere. Se posso comunque dare un consiglio ai giurati, nessuno merita il Pallone d'Oro come Kakà. E' una finale emozionante anche se alla mia età le emozioni si gestiscono in maniera diversa rispetto a quando avevo 18 o 19 anni. Pensando a Manchester l'immagine che ho negli occhi sono io che alzo la Coppa con tutta la squadra schierata dietro di me. Secondo me, l'immagine più giusta per la premiazione era quella. Adesso si torna ala passato, vedremo se avremo la fortuna di vincere. Comunque l'importante è arrivare alla premiazione, non come sarà la premiazione. Al Liverpool Crouch può dare molto sulle palle alte, da parte mia in questo momento c'è tanto orgoglio, anche tanta impazienza. Ho voglia di entrare e provare i brividi che si provano solo in momenti come questo. Io però sono orgoglioso di essere il Capitano di una squadra che si ripete sempre a questi livelli.

I have never been crazy about looking at history, it difficult to find the comparison with Athens now and in 1994, there are great players, Kakà today, Savicevic then. The Golden Ball is not as important as the final in general. If I can say, no one deserves the Golden Ball more than Kakà. It will be an emotional final even if you manage it differently from when you were 18 or 19. The best image is fitting the cup in Manchester with the whole team behind me. The important thing to get there rather than not. Crouch can be difficult in the air but I want to get out there once again and experience the shiver of excitement you only get in games like this. To be doing this again at this level is something fantastic and I am proud to be captain of a team that is always at these levels.

Brividi
"Orgoglio perchè è la sensazione che provo nell'indossare la fascia da capitano di questa squadra capace di restare su questi livelli per così tanti anni". - ha spiegato in conferenza stampa il difensore rossonero -. Impazienza perché non vedo l'ora di sentire quei brividi che corrono dietro la schiena in occasione di partite come questa”.
Emozioni nuove
Brividi sulla schiena come se fosse la prima volta. E' per questo che Maldini ha deciso di continuare per un'altra stagione. Per continuare a provare queste sensazioni. "Queste partite regalano emozioni nuove tutte le volte anche se adesso le gestisco meglio rispetto a quando avevo 18 anni". E per prolungare una carriera incredibile che continua ad arricchirsi di risultati superlativi. "Di certo non aspetterò il risultato della finale di domani per definire la mia carriera come di alto profilo", ha detto con un sorriso.
Pericolo Crouch
Il presente si chiama però Liverpool. E un centravanti anomalo come Peter Crouch che potrebbe creare qualche problema alla difesa rossonera con la sua statura. ""Il Liverpool è diverso da quello di due anni fa anche se le basi e il tecnico sono gli stessi. Crouch rappresenta una soluzione particolare per il loro gioco d'attacco. Non so se giocherà, ma è comunque un'arma in più anche se per noi non rappresenta certo un pensiero fisso".
Sfida d'oro
In conferenza stampa il capitano rossonero sedeva vicino a Kakà. In caso di vittoria della UEFA Champions League da parte del Milan c'è chi ipotizza un testa a testa tra i due per il Pallone d'Oro. “Se non l'ho vinto durante tutta la carriera, non credo ci riuscirò quest'anno - ha detto Maldini -. Ma i premi individuali passano in terzo o quarto piano a questo punto. Certo è che se dovessi consigliare un giocatore ai votanti farei certamente il nome di 'Riccardo'”.
Spaventa-britanniche
Il brasiliano, 10 gol finora in Champions League, non verrà marcato a uomo dal Liverpool. Almeno secondo le parole del tecnico dei Reds Rafael Benítez. "In Europa nessuna squadra mi ha mai marcato a uomo e credo sarà così anche domani". Il fuoriclasse brasiliano ha già fatto male alle britanniche Celtic FC e Manchester United nella strada verso la finale. "Ho fatto sempre bene conto squadre inglesi. Se giocheremo come abbiamo fatto contro il Manchester nel primo tempo, sarà difficile fermarci". Il Liverpool è avvisato.




As a player for whom the word unruffled might have been invented, it was something of a surprise to hear Paolo Maldini speak of his impatience as he prepares for his eighth European Champion Clubs' Cup final in the colours of AC Milan.
'Pride'
When asked for an adjective to describe his feelings ahead of Wednesday's final against Liverpool FC in Athens, the 38-year-old replied: "Pride is certainly one as the captain of the team; impatience is another because I cannot wait to feel the shiver down my spine that only a final like this can bring." Maldini showed no ill-effects for the knee injury which has hampered him all season as he trained with his team-mates at the OACA Spyro Louis Stadium on Tuesday, clearing the 38-year-old to equal Real Madrid CF legend Paco Gento's mark of eight final appearances.
'Highest level'
"The fact I'm able to set these records is obviously something I'm very proud of," continued Maldini, a winner in 1989, 1990, 1994 - here in the Greek capital - and 2003. "It's always exciting, even at my age, playing in this type of game, but obviously I handle the excitement in a different way to when I was 18. My main target when I started playing was to play at the highest level for as long as possible, and I have decided to continue to play for another season because emotions are always new in football. That's the secret to my long career."
Low point
While Maldini may be 90 minutes away from becoming only the fourth player in history to lift five European Champion Clubs' Cups - Gento, Alfredo di Stéfano and José María Zárraga are the others - he is well versed in disappointment too having been a runner-up in 1993, 1995 and 2005. That third loss in Istanbul was arguably the lowest point in a club career dominated by highs. Maldini scored the quickest-ever final goal as the Rossoneri played some truly electric football to establish a 3-0 half-time advantage which they somehow squandered after the break.
Individual honour
"Liverpool are different in some areas from the team we faced in 2005, and so are Milan," said Maldini. "But the managers and the foundations are the same, and the way the teams are going to approach the game is as well." Should Maldini lead his side to victory on Wednesday, many feel the European Footballer of the Year award could follow, a number which does not yet include the elegant defender. "If I haven't won it during the course of my career, I don't think I'll win it in 2007 when I'm 38," he said. "When you get to this stage, individual honours are very much in the background compared to team ones."

E' la quinta ma è sempre bellissimo. Ho la fortuna di giocare in una grande squadra che mi ha dato la possibilità di rifarmi delle delusioni che sono comunque meno rispetto alle cose belle. Voglio giocare un'altra Champions League, un altro campionato e la Coppa Intercontinentale che mi è sfuggite le ultime tre volte. Chiudere così sarebbe fantastico.

It is the fifth time, but it is always wonderful. I have the fortune to play in a great team that has given me the opportunity to make up for the disappointments that are nevertheless outnumbered by the good times. I want to play another Champions League, another league season and the World Club Championship that escaped me the last three times. Ending like that would be fantastic.
